Can't delete files from computer

Hi, so i'm a student and i just bought a Macbook Pro. 

I thought it would be smart to transfer my pictures from my phone to Dropbox on my laptop (it wasn't).

So i logged out so the pictures wouldnt be safed on my laptop anymore. 

Now everytime i want to download anything for school it says my hard drive is full. 

which makes me think the pictures aren't deleted from my laptop.

Does anyone know how to delete them from my laptop (and still keep them online)?

(Also a lot of time when i click on my desktop Dropbox it doesnt open, which is really annoying and i don't know why)

Hi there @fleur2, thanks for reaching out to us. 

If you want your files to stay in your account without taking up space on your hard drive, you can use selective sync. 

That way, you remove your files locally but keep them online.
