Code in exported markdown is missing the "backticks"

Code in exported markdown is missing the "backticks"

When a code snippet is added to a Paper document, the exported Markdown file is missing the normal backticks that you would find in a standard markdown formatted file.

I have already seen different threads in the community center, about this bug in Paper export to Markdown.

So I'll try again. Would it be possible to have this (clearly a bug/missing core feature) fixed? This is basic markdown formatting, I would expect it to work!

Hi there @didoo

Welcome to the Dropbox Community! I'd be more than happy to help look into this.

At first, could you please let me know which thread you're referring to when you mention that:

Could you also confirm for me if you've tried doing this from another browser or an incognito window?

Let me know what you find!

Hi didoo,

In Dropbox Paper, the ``` translates into a code block. Hope this helps.

@Lusil here:

https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Paper-Ideas/Export-of-Paper-has-issues/idi-p/207436

https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Files-folders/Exporting-to-Markdown-doesn-t-actually-export-everythi...

What I am trying to do:
See this example: https://paper.dropbox.com/doc/This-is-a-test-of-code-snippet--AmrvMmqBy_icirUoG_k~EsgIAQ-6s2HYRhp9lA...

Export in Markdown: the file will not contain the standard backticks for delimiting code:

# This is a test of code snippet

    #include <stdio.h>
    int main()
    {
       // printf() displays the string inside quotation
       printf("Hello, World!");
       return 0;
    }

But look at see the screenshot of how the UI is actually showing backticks in the button for code formatting (which is a standard now).

Using indentation with spaces is an old way to format Markdown, and makes it so much difficult read it, edit it and to parse it programmatically.

Thanks for the screenshots, @didoo! They definitely give a better visual understanding of what you're seeing.

I've followed up with a ticket to look into this a bit more in-depth, so when you have the chance, please check for my recent message and we'll take it from there.

Cheers!

Following up on thread 370865 and thread 207436 since there's no option to reply or add to discussion and the issue hasn't been solved.  Issue:  exported markdown missing "backticks."  Illustration below:

Attempted to export this.

I was expecting this:

But actually got this (missing backticks)
