Copied instead of moved...

Helpful | Level 6

I've moved quite a few files from one folder to a new folder. It seems as if they have copied instead of moved. Thoughts?

Just took the time to try moving the rest of the files and it worked just the way I thought it would. The original incident must have been a blip. 🙂

Hello @mom2kjs, welcome to the Dropbox Community - I'd be happy to help!

I'll just need a bit more info on this, such as:

  • What steps did you follow to move the folder?
  • Was the folder in your Dropbox account and moved somewhere outside of it?
  • Did you use the website, the desktop app, your Finder/Windows Explorer, or the mobile app?

Any additional details would be very helpful. Cheers!

  • What steps did you follow to move the folder? Selected the files, selected more actions, selected move, selected the appropriate new file, then selected move
  • Was the folder in your Dropbox account and moved somewhere outside of it?  Inside Dropbox
  • Did you use the website, the desktop app, your Finder/Windows Explorer, or the mobile app? iPad app

Thank you for your help!

Thanks for confirming that for me, @mom2kjs.

Hmm.  Could you try rebooting your device and see if you find the files in both locations again?

So what it looks like at this point is that only some of the files moved and not others. This is so strange!

So, yes...that is what it is...some of the files moved but not others. I did power down and back up to the same result. I don't know if I should just try moving them again or just wait longer just to see if it is an issue with time since it was a lot of files. Things that make you go hmmm...

Hey @mom2kjs, thanks for keeping me in the loop.

I just wanted to check back with you: did you try moving the files again or did they show up in the new location?

I haven't tried moving again and nothing else was moved. I should have some extra time this week so I'll be working on it then.

No worries, @mom2kjs

When you do get the chance, try moving the rest of the files that weren't move and let me know what happens then.

In the meantime, if anything else pops up, just give me a shout. Cheers!
