I recently realized that when I delete a file under my Dropbox folder on my local PC, the file is actually deleted only locally, but it is still there when I access it through my mobile (or if I go to dropbox.com).
Deleting files from the app on my mobile, instead, works as expected: it deletes the file on the cloud as well.
I didn't set up any fancy selective sync or anything like that. Am I the only one having this issue?
This is leaving a lot of trash around.
Thank you for the support Lusil, I appreciate that.
Yes, the dropbox icon is there, right next to the clock and actually dropbox is doing its job properly for most of the scenarios: file creation, file amended, file renamed. All these actions (performed on my pc) are correctly synced in the cloud, and hence also in the app on my mobile phone.
Only file deletion seems to have no effect.
PC: Create the file
Mobile: I can see the file
PC: I delete the file
Mobile: I can still see the file
Dbox.com: I can still see the file
Mobile: I delete the file
Dbox.com: I no longer see the file
Here is an additional piece of information: weeks ago I noticed that the dbox icon (next to the clock) was synching files forever. It was stuck in synching. Also, at some point it started crashing: I was receiving a windows dialog telling me that dropbox encountered a problem and it needed a restart (no specific error id, only generic info). After restarting the application or even the pc, the issue was still there (ever-spinning wheel and crashing once or twice a day). I even tried to install the latest version of the application, but I only solved the issue by 1) uninstalling completely dropbox from the pc and then 2) installing it again. Now it looks back to its healthy behavior, apart from this minor issue on file deletion (which was there already also when the app was broken).
Thank you Lusil,
that looks like an easter egg 🙂
I tried it. I actually did it twice (to make sure the change was properly done) and I also received the message "Dropbox successfully repaired the hardlinks in your Dropbox and turned them into copies".
But the issue is still there 😞
Thank you for pointing this out Daphne. I hadn't, in the beginning.
I tried it right now, giving a couple of attempts to both "Fix Hardlinks" and "Fix permissions", but it doesn't seem to solve the issue yet
