Direct Media Links Suddenly Expired

New member | Level 2
New member | Level 2

Yesterday, I used some automation software (Zapier) to produce hundreds of direct download links for images in my dropbox. The links begin with https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/apitl/1....

Everything worked fine. When I woke up this morning, however, I found that every single one of those Dropbox links now returns a 410 error.

Why would this be the case? Do direct media links expire? Can anyone suggest an alternative?

Hello @Sam-W - welcome to the Dropbox Community!

Woah! I just moused over the link you've included in your post and it's huge - have you  noticed how long the URL's string actually is? Maybe that's what's causing your shared links to generate a 410 error (which is similar to the dreaded 404 - not found error). In this case though, I'd suggest checking with Zapier too - it might worth a shot.

Maybe a URL shortener could also work but I'm not sure about this as I don't really use Zapier for this purpose - this is exactly why I prompted you to check with them too.

Let me know what you find and we'll take it from there Sam!

Hey Sam; how are you today?

I'm merely checking back on this as I was wondering if you managed to resolve your concern in the end and if so, how?

Hi Walter, No, not yet. Still talking with Zapier.  They seem to think that the direct media link does just expire after a few hours.
