Does dropbox delete files from my hard drive?

Does dropbox delete files from my hard drive?

DeeLite
Explorer | Level 3

Dropbox put all the files on my desktop into dropbox and I did NOT want that to happen. I am not good  with computers and all I wanted was to download 2 files that were emailed to me. But I'm terrified now that Dropbox has stolen all my files and I want my files back on my computer and OUT of Dropbox!

1. I did not know Dropbox would steal my files

2. I do not know if Dropbox deleted my files from my computer

3. I want my files back!!!!

While installing Dropbox you enabled the computer backup feature, which takes your Desktop, Documents and Downloads folders and moves them into the Dropbox folder so they can sync to your Dropbox account online.

1. I did not know Dropbox would steal my files

Your files were not stolen. They still exist on your computer within the Dropbox folder. They were moved because you, perhaps unknowingly, enabled the computer backup feature.

2. I do not know if Dropbox deleted my files from my computer

Your files were not deleted. You'll find them in the Dropbox folder on your hard drive.

3. I want my files back!!!!

Are you no longer able to access your files?

Hi @DeeLite, thanks for contacting us!

As @Rich mentioned, it sounds like you enabled the computer backup feature.

Disabling it should allow you to move files to their default locations.

You should be able to locate your files on the site, and in the local Dropbox folder.

Keep me updated with any progress!
