Does the "camera uploads" feature leave the original photo on the iphone?

gogobigred New member | Level 2

I've scoured the forum to see if I can find a definitive answer to this question, alas I can only infer an answer.

If I turn on "camera uploads" on my iPhone, will it leave all my original images in place on the phone?

Based on what I've read I assume that it does, however, I am not willing to take a chance with these precious memories on an assumption. (If I'd made this assumption with iCloud, for example, I would have been left with low res copies on my phone.) I have plenty of space on the phone, I don't need to save storage space; I just want a cloud-based backup of all my phone images.

TIA!

Hi @gogobigred, thanks for posting on the Community!

The Dropbox mobile app doesn’t delete files on the mobile device in any way, so if you enable camera uploads, the original copies of the images will remain on the device.

The app only allows you to delete files from your own account online, and doesn’t have access to delete files physically located on your phone.

I hope this helps to clarify matters!
