Downloads failing

Downloads failing

Hi there, I'm having to download some video files from a client, it seems that any file over 5GB fails when trying to download. I've tried three different browsers an connected up via ethernet and still I'm unable to download these files from Dropbox. Can you help?

One file is 30GB, this always seems to fail around the 20GB mark. The other files, between 5-12GB always seem to fail just before completion saying either "the network connection was lost" or simply "download failed".

Hi @cinnamon jim, thanks for posting in our Community!

Since it's not currently possible to download files that are larger than 20GB in size or folders that contain more than 10.000 files, it's normal not to be able to download your 30GB file. Try downloading them in smaller batches, to see if that helps.

About the rest of the files, the smaller ones, can you also try clearing your browser's cache by following these steps, or try from an Incognito/Private browsing window that doesn't have any add-ons or plugins?

Let me know how you get on!

To check - if I upgrade back to a plus account will I be able to download the 30GB file?

I'll try to clear the cache and see how that goes for the smaller files.

Thanks,

Just to add, I deleted the cache from Firefox and used incognito mode to download. This worked for the first 6GB file I downloaded, then the next 8GB file failed.

In the end I had to purchase Dropbox Plus because I still needed to download the 30GB file (which I can't do with the Basic account). This has worked. I saved the file to my Dropbox account and then added to my Desktop after this.

Still, downloading using just the basic account seems to be quite unstable for these file sizes 8-12GB.

Upgrading to Dropbox Plus does indeed allow you to download a 30 GB file, if you choose the option to "Save to Dropbox".

Even with Plus, or any paid account, you can still not directly download a 30 GB file to your computer, as the download limit for our website is 20 GB.

Having said that, @cinnamon jim, I'm happy to see that upgrading allowed you to save the large file that was giving you trouble.

As an alternative, you can always use the Dropbox desktop application for larger files. With the "Save to Dropbox" option, the files will sync to your account and thus to your computer.

Let me know if you have any more questions about this!
