Hi,

I have used DropBox for years.  On my new Laptop is requires an internet connection to open Word, etc. files, even though it is noted as working offline.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hey, @DColombo, welcome to our online community!

I assume you’re opening this Word document from your Dropbox folder on your new laptop. Is it possible that the file is Smart Synced, and set to online-only? This would show a little cloud icon next to the file name, and means that the file isn’t synced to your local folder.

Also, do you have Word (or other compatible editor) installed on your laptop?

Let me know how it goes!

Yes Word is installed locally.  Is there a way to default all files and folders be local and not SmartSynced, etc.?

You can change your Smart Sync settings through the app's preferences @DColombo

For files or folders that are already 'Online Only' you'll need to right click on them and select the 'Local' option from the Smart Sync menu.

Let me know if this helps!
