Dropbox deleted almost 500GB worth of data

Dropbox deleted almost 500GB worth of data

Hi,

This happened for the first time since I started using Dropbox 4+ years ago, but Dropbox deleted almost 500GB worth of my data 5 hours ago, and I am still days away from restoring them. Reading other comments suggests that this is not an uncommon issue in Dropbox.

So my question is, why should I continue using Dropbox when the service just deleted half a TB of my data and would not let me work on my stuff for the next few days? How will Dropbox compensate my time trying to restore over 500,000 files? It says downloading 100,000 files takes 19 hours. And why the hell it needs to take 19 * 5 hours to download only 500GB worth of data?

Hi @houseyoo, thanks for contacting us.

I understand your frustration over this matter. In general, Dropbox doesn't delete your files without any user interaction on them.

A thread I created can give some possibilities on how files were deleted. If you check the version history of one of the files you restored, you'll be able to see how it was deleted.

If the download speed is slow after restoring the files, try changing or removing the bandwidth limit in the Dropbox desktop application.

If you need any further assistance, please let me know!
