Dropbox desktop application still losing connection to the internet/server

Hey everyone,

I guess, the symlinks were the major problem! After 5 days and infinite cycles of connecting, syncing, uploading, losing connection and re-connecting my Dropbox is up to date again. Security settings were no issue.

Hey @julian_m. Welcome to the Community. 

This thread was about an issue we faced at the time. We don't have any connection issues reported at the time, so let's start troubleshooting to see what is going on here. 

  1. Please get me a screenshot of any error messages you might be getting. 
  2. Let me know the version of Dropbox you have installed on this device and the Operating system version of the device. 
  3. You can try a speedtest to see if this is an issue with your Internet speed. 

Let me know what you find.

Hi Fiona,

thanks for your fast answer. 

I don't really get en error, my Dropbox nautilus extension keeps losing connection to the server and spends most of the day "Connecting...". I figured out, that symbolic links can be a hinderance, so I removed almost all of them, which seemed to have helped at first (yesterday). Today we are back to just connecting...

I have Dropbox 1.6.2. on a Linux Mint 17.1 .

Download speed is around 78 , upload around 67 Mbps.

Good job with symlinks and thanks for the additional info @julian_m

Any security programms that could be blocking Dropbox from connecting?

None installed. Are there some standard routines, that would be installed by default in a linux distribution, that I should check for?

Yes. Check those and whitelist Dropbox if they are giving you the option. 

Then reboot and let me know if the issue persists.
