Dropbox files vanished from windows file explorer

Helpful | Level 5

I recently reinstalled Dropbox on my Windows computer. (I had to rebuild my system.) I thoughtlessly chose automatic backup; I turned it off by unchecking all my files so nothing would be automatically backed up I got a number of notifications that files were being deleted, but I didn't think anything of it. To make a long story short, the website shows the files (All Files), but the desktop app doesn't show them, and (probably consequently) Windows File explorer doesn't show them. The files appear in "All Files," but not in "Deleted Files." How do I get this mess straightened out?

Thanks, Daphne. I ended up doing something a bit more drastic. I uninstalled and reinstalled Dropbox ad paid close attention to the setup. After some file shuffling, all is well.

Again, thanks.

Hey @Roger B.30, thanks for reaching out to us here!

It sounds like you changed the selective sync settings of your desktop app rather than the computer backup settings. To get the folder to sync back locally to your File Explorer, please recheck these folders

Once the folders have synced back to your computer, you can disable the backup of your computer folders with the steps outlined towards the bottom of this article.

You'll then be able to move the contents of those folders in Dropbox back to their original locations on your computer.

Let me know how it goes!
