Dropbox iOS App doesn't upload all of the iOS Burst Mode Photos

Helpful | Level 5

hi there,

Are there any plans to get burst photo upload working properly in the iOS Dropbox App? Right now the camera uploads seems to only upload a single image in a burst image rather than uploading all of the images in the burst. Seems like you have to "explode" the burst to get Dropbox to recognize the individual photos and this has been the case for quite a while.

  • Note: Burst and live photos on iOS are not automatically added to camera uploads. If you would like to add burst and live photos to your Camera Uploads folder, you will need to upload them manually.
  • Note: Camera uploads is available to all Dropbox users (Basic, Plus, Professional, and Business), with the following three exceptions:

Unfortunately, I'm on linux (see above problem), but I've read a solution from this page: https://apple.stackexchange.com/questions/118871/how-can-i-upload-all-photos-from-a-burst-on-the-iph... that plugging the iOS device into a computer and using Dropbox Camera Upload sync via the desktop seems to work, but I haven't tested that on a non-linux OS.

  • As of this week, Camera Uploads for iOS should be syncing your edited files as well (with some exceptions; Live and Burst images do not upload but can be manually uploaded and this limitation comes from how iOS deals with these files). If you don't see that happening now, you should in the next few days.

Seems like the above post blames iOS for the lack of functionality, but it appears that Google Photos seems to have cracked the problem years ago:

Will the Dropbox iOS app ever properly support handling of burst mode photos from the camera roll? Is this a feature that is being actively worked on or has it been abandon? Does anyone have any other solutions that handle burst photos properly? I've found a small round up here: http://www.cryan.com/daily/20190703.jsp but would prefer some first hand experience.

thanks!

Just found this great article after posting:

https://thetechnologyman.com/how-to-back-up-your-iphone-photos-and-videos-with-the-new-heif-and-hevc...

It's dated so some of the features may have changed, but it does breakdown very cleanly the pros and cons of 3 cloud services (icloud, google photos, dropbox), so pretty helpful.

cheers
