Dropbox isn't syncing a certain folder

Dropbox isn't syncing a certain folder

My Dropbox stopped syncing on my computer. I don't see the new files either in the Dropbox app or on file explorer. I'm using Windows 10. When I go to the preferences in Dropbox app and go to the selective sync, when I click on the folder that isn't syncing, I can see the subfolders which I don't see in the app. I tried stopped syncing that folder and synced it again but it doesn't sync the new folders. I see the same folders and documents as I saw before. Anybody has an idea what the problem might be?

Thanks for the images, it does look like you have a dot . at the end of the folder names. This isn't supported by Windows, which is why they're not syncing.

Could you try deleting the ending dot on the Dropbox site, and then let me know how the syncing progresses?

I’ve also amended the images as per Community Guidelines for your own privacy and security.

Hi @fadthe1, thanks for joining the Community!

Is it possible that the folders have incompatible characters that can't be read by Windows, such as the : or | symbols?

Keep me updated with any progress!

Hi Jay, unfortunately that isn't the problem. I did doublecheck but that doesn't seem to be the problem. I see that my photos are automatically uploaded to camera uploads but the folders (three or four levels down) I'm creating aren't being shown nor their content. I can see them on mobile app and on browser but I can't see them on desktop app and in file explorer on my computer.

How long are the filepaths for those files? Windows has a maximum limit of 260 characters to be able to view or sync files in some cases.

Could you attach a screenshot showing the folder with the missing files as it appears in Windows, and on the Dropbox site?

Hi Jay, here're three screenshots. The first one is from the web site, the second is from the desktop app and the third one is from the file explorer.

If you could find the reason why I can't synchronize these folders, you're going to be my hero 🙂

Can't sync a single folder

Fede_RR
New member | Level 2

Hi, There's a single folder (inside a shared one) that won't sync. I can see it online, but not on my PC. Everything else works perfectly. No errors from Dropbox, I simply can't see it. Also tried to re-install Dropbox, nothing changed.

Help!

Hey @Fede_RR, let's see how I can help!

The first thing we need to rule out is an invalid character that throttles the folder from syncing.

Can you check this Help Center article?

Let me know if that was the case!
