Dropbox replaced my desktop

Dropbox replaced my desktop

New member | Level 2

Accidentally synced my desktop with dropbox. It immediately uploaded thousands of files and folders then replaced my Desktop directory with its own Dropbox\Desktop. Any files I save to desktop dont' appear to have this directory but secretly do. I have now effectively created two Desktops, and I literally can not reverse it. This is essentially malware. I am nuking my PC to fix this. If you're reading this, don't try to sync anything with Windows and get a better cloud service This has been a nightmare

Re: Dropbox replaced my desktop

Hi @dragonwhydidyouruinmypc, thanks for posting on the Community.

I'm sorry to hear about this matter. It sounds like you enabled the automatic computer backup feature in the Dropbox desktop application. Could you first try disabling the computer backup from Dropbox using the steps in the above article to see if this helps?

Afterwards, you can move the folders and files back to their previous locations, which will also delete them from the Dropbox account online.

Please let me know how it goes.
