Dropbox won't overwrite files with the same name any more

Explorer | Level 4

New to this, so hope I'm not in the wrong place. I have the free version of Dropbox, so probably shouldn't be complaining, but...

I used to open up Dropbox from an icon in my SysTray, open a folder in the Windows Library, and drag and drop into Dropbox a copy the file I was working on (I always Copy, never Move). The old file with the same name was overwritten. Since Dropbox was "upgraded" on my machine a few months ago (a procedure in which I had no say) to 85.4.155, I can no longer do that. The new file becomes a copy of the old file, with a (1) appended to the filename. So now I have to delete the old file before dragging the copy into Dropbox. It's seriously inconvenient.

Hi @Blissxl - welcome to our Community!

I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with this and I'd really love to have a further look into it.

Can you first try re-installing our app using the offline installer and let me know if the behavior you described remains the same?

In that case, I'll need to dig a tad deeper so please let me know if it would be OK with you if I used the email address that's connected to your Community's profile to contact you to investigate further.

Thank you so much!

Hi, Walter. Offline installer doesn't seem to want to download (to my desktop). I tried it a couple of times, but nothing happened.

If the download is failing, please try another browser after rebooting your computer first @Blissxl.

If you get any errors along the way, please send me a screenshot so I can have a visual too.

Thanks!

I can't do this right now -- working to a deadline -- but anyway, I'm starting to think that I should just learn to live with the inconveniences I described in my first post. Thank you, Walter.

I'm still not convinced that this is due to our desktop app @Blissxl.

I totally understand you need to work though so I'll leave it up to you. If you ever want to have a further look into this, just give me a nudge here; I'll be happy to follow up.

Enjoy the rest of your day in the meantime!
