Duplicating files: Fast for me, slow for others. Makes no sense.

New member | Level 2

My writing partner and I collaborate in Scrivener using DB.

When I duplicate a 10-mb file inside our shared folder, it takes 5 seconds, as viewed from my computer (and hers). When she duplicates the same file inside the same shared folder, it takes 13 minutes, as viewed from her computer (and mine).

She uses a 2019 Macbook Pro running Catalina. I use a 2016 Macbook running Catalina. Our internet speeds are good. I'm in Phoenix, she's in Davis, CA (midway between Sacramento and SF). Whether she uses the DB app, or just uses Command > D to duplicate, the results are the same. So there really are no significant differences that I can see.

And doesn't the duplicating happen within the DB server?

Why the difference in time?

Hi @Jack Daniel, thanks for messaging the Community!

I use Scrivener as well, so know a little about it formats files in general. Are you referring to an individual file when syncing, or the entire Scrivener project file?

If the latter, it could be because the project is a package file with multiple files and folders inside that.

Do they experience any issues copying files outside of this folder in general? Have they modified their bandwidth settings to let it sync faster?

Keep me posted!
