Excel file (xlsx) does not show "open with..." options

Excel file (xlsx) does not show "open with..." options

I have two apps and not long ago I used Sheets to open those same xlsx files from dropbox.
Somehow MS Excel (defenitely not my choice) became the default application and when I click "Open with"
the option list does not show up - MS Excel just opens it up automatically.
Sheets is still available on my phone and I can open up xlsx files.

Android 8.0.0

By the way a few years ago I've reported similar issue for txt files and it was addressed at that time.

Thanks for the update.

You can try changing the default apps used when opening files via the Dropbox mobile app by doing the following:

  • Open the Dropbox app
  • Tap on the menu button
  • Tap the gear icon (or "Settings" on older versions of the app)
  • Tap “Manage Default Apps”
  • Press “Remove” next to the app that you’d like to remove

Let me know how it goes!

Hi @serge1966, thanks for messaging the Community!

In order to assist further, for clarification, are you referring to trying to open the Excel file via the Dropbox mobile app only, or via the Dropbox site?

Let me know so I can provide the correct information!

Jay

Thank you so much, I was able to address that using your instructions.

There is defenitely someting wrong with Sheets android application since when I went to default app selection in Dropbox, Sheets did not show up there so somewhere in the process I had to use link something like "select other app". Regardless of the fact that I had only Sheets a couple of months ago and it worked fine with Dropbox.

And now I am having another issue with Sheets where I open up an xlsx file from Dropbox, select Sheets, and Sheets show in file Details that location is Dropbox, but when I am trying to save the file, it only shows options Google Drive and Device. And when I select Device, it does not retain the original folder and defaults it to Downloads. This, however, is a different issue and I'll do more research and may need to create another topic.

Thank you so much for your help!
