File added to Dropbox

New member | Level 2

A mysterious file '5062' has been added to my Dropbox in the 'Photos' folder. Also, I've just noticed that two files '5064' and '5065' have just been added to my 'Sent' folder. There is no extension to these files and they don't appear to be openable. They are all 258Kb, Where are these coming from?

In that case you should be safe to delete them Andy.

Let me know if you have any additional Dropbox questions in the meantime; I'll be happy to follow up.

Hey there @AndyP1  - how are you today?

At first, as they're lacking the file extension it's normal that they won't open. Also, you mentioned that you see those in your Photos tab so they might be a failed upload attempt or something similar.

As I'm not really sure how this might have happened; could you take a look at your events page and let me know what you see there?

I'm only asking becasue the Events page at https://www.dropbox.com/events will give you an overview of all activity in your account including files events (adds/edits/deletes), as well as adding or removing shared folders.

If you would like to know more about a specific event, you can click on the blue link to open the event details page.

Let me know what you find and we'll take it from there Andy!

Thanks Walter,

I've looked at the Events page and I'm attaching a screenshot. You can see that the last thing I did regarding Dropbox was yesterday I added a Powerpoint file. The other entries since are not things that I have done!DropboxCapture.PNG

Thanks for the screenshot Andy - much appreciated!

From the looks of it, you added this file to your account.

At this point, I'd suggest finding the file in question and access its version history to see how it was added in the first place.

You can see more detailed information about which user and computer added, deleted, or changed a file by looking at the "previous version history" on the website. For more information, please visit this Help Center article:

https://www.dropbox.com/help/security/recover-older-versions

If this doesn't help, please let me know so I can then reach out to your Dropbox associated email address to work on this together.

Thanks again, Walter.

I've looked at the Version history and it looks as though these files have been added by my Mobile. This is extraordinary as I haven't used my mobile (Sony Experia) for anything to do with Dropbox today! So, it looks like a problem with my smartphone.
