Files being moved without my interaction

Files being moved without my interaction

Vinniel

I just started Dropbox Plus.  I moved several files from an SD Card to my desktop.  When I checked, the files were gone from my desktop, and I found them in a folder, under Dropbox, called Desktop cache.  How did this happen, and what can I do to prevent it from happening again?  I want files to be copied, not moved, if and when I choose.

Hey there @Vinniel, thanks for reaching out to us here!

Would you mind letting me know the folder path to where you found this file in Dropbox?

Is it possibly under a folder named "My PC/Mac ([device name])"?

Let me know and we can go from there!

It's a Windows 10 PC.

The path that it shows under Properties, when I right-click the directory is:

C:\Users\Vince

I also tried the chat option for this issue.  On that, Minnie advised me to quit Dropbox before uploading any files, so I've set DB to not start with Windows.  I'll start it when I want to use it.  It seems a bit clunky vs. changing a setting, but we'll see how it goes.

Hi @Vinniel, the Dropbox cache folder is used during the syncing process, so it shouldn't be involved when moving files from an SD card to your computer.

This could only happen if it was accidentally dragged into that folder, or if the Dropbox desktop application used the camera upload feature to import images from the SD card to the Dropbox folder, so it would then appear in the cache during syncing.
