Hi, My question is similar to the last one I saw on the community page and I tried the advice and still can't work things out. After a long time not using Dropbox I deleted old files and have attempted to upload a new file and it stopped midway when the internet connection dropped out. Since then, the file has disappeared from my laptop and even my backup timemachine doesn't have it, though I pulled it from there originally to upload. For a while I'd been getting emails from my dropbox account saying that the syncing wasn't working but I ignored them because I wasn't using it until just recently. Help! I looked at the cache by the way and there's nothing there since 2017. I I took a screen shot of my folders but it won't click and drag into here.
Hi @i-bridge; welcome to the Dropbox Community and happy Friday!
I'm sorry to hear about your missing file and I'll be happy to help look into this.
It sounds like you're using the desktop app to upload files and depending on the file's size, syncing can take a while.
Can you check the app within your system tray/menu bar and let me know if it's 'Up to date' or still syncing?
Let me know what you find!
Hey there @i-bridge!
Just to clarify, are you still not able to locate the file that you were trying to upload? Or are you able to find that file now?
Keep me posted!
No, the file remains lost. So far all I did was bring my Dropbox up to date. I work on a Mac laptop. The file has disappeared from my laptop and also now, my external back up which was plugged in at the time (I think).
I would appreciate help. Thanks Kerry
Thanks for keeping us in the loop Kerry!
Can you try searching for the file in your account online?
If you can't find it, please take a look at your account's events page to see if it ever made it to our servers. This is the place where all adds, edits and deletes are normally logged so it should give you a hint or two:
Let us know what you find!
Hi there @Macswitchergia; thanks for joining the discussion here and sorry to hear about this.
If you can't see those files on our website, it means that they never made it to our servers. This is probably because the desktop app didn't have enough time to sync all the changes you applied before your computer crashed.
At this point, I'm afraid you'll need to restore your machine to see if you can find any of those files on your computer's hard drive.
I hope this clears things up and please let me know if you have any more questions.
