Files taking up space on my HD even though smart sync is set to "online only"

I'm using a business dropbox account. I noticed that even though I have dropbox set to "online only" there are 283 GB of files taking up space in my documents folder and they are all coming from dropbox.

Is this a Documents folder that's inside your Dropbox folder, or elsewhere on your computer. If it's not in Dropbox, then Dropbox has no affect on those files, and if you see them in the folder, they're on your drive taking up disk space.

Hi there @justinep, thanks for reaching out to us here!

So I can have a better idea of the issue that you're having here, please let me know the following:

  • The OS of the device having this issue.
  • The version of the desktop app you have installed.
  • If you right click an "online only" file and choose "Properties/Get Info", what do you see for the "Size on disk"?

Let me know and we'll take it from there - thanks!
