HELP! Somewhere in syncing some files have gone missing

It appears some files have gone completely missing from my dropbox account somewhere in the syncing process. 

One particular file in question was located only on the cloud, ie not synced to a hard drive, using the selective sync function. However somewhere along the way (i believe within the last 30 days), the Dropbox app has been downloaded to a different machine and different files chosen for selective sync (and still logged in on the other machine with the original sync settings). 

A whole folder with a lot of files is now not available on either machine, or when i login to Dropbox through the browser. It's completely gone. I tried the "file rewind" function and it says there is no activity on that file in the last 30 days. I also tried looking through the deleted files and there's nothing there either. 

Any ideas what I should do?

As a first step, if this is a shared folder, could you check your Sharing tab on the website and see if it's there by any chance?
