Having errors when trying to copy from my synced Dropbox desktop folder to my desktop

Helpful | Level 5

Hi!

I am having major problems with a shared folder from my client within Dropbox.

I have the Dropbox desktop app installed and it has worked perfectly until today it just doesnt work. The files that she has uploaded look like they are syncing into my Dropbox Desktop folder and they are visable in there, dropbox says that the sync is up to date but when i try to copy them out of that folder to my desktop to work on it i keep getting this error:

'Error 0x80070780: the file cannot be accessed by the system'

I've google this error and done the checks for the system and no bugs or problems have come up. I uninstalled the dropbox desktop app and reinstalled and that didn't work.

Any ideas what it could be or any advice would be appreciated because i'm at a loss now!

Thanks

Thanks for your response Jane!

Right now everything seems to be working properly. I reinstalled the Desktop app
and initially it still wasn't working but the next day I realised that the icons were now visible on each folder where they had not been before and I could force the sync of the folder I needed. So in the end it worked! I've done a test shared folder with my husband and that has worked perfectly aswell. So fingers crossed it works again with my client.

Thank you for time and responce!

Hey there (@cattighe), happy Monday, let’s check a couple things together & we’ll take it based on your findings!

When it comes to Dropbox, I’m assuming that you’re running the latest stable version of the application on your pc (61.4.95), you’ve made all OS updates & you’re not using Symlinks. It’s also advisable to make sure Dropbox is syncing correctly on your menu bar, as below:
system-tray.png

Once you hover your mouse over the Dropbox icon, you’ll see the syncing status(eg. Up-To-Date, Indexing &c). What does the message there read for you?

If all the settings above are applied correctly & Dropbox is syncing without any issues, then the message you’re seeing could be related to your system's or the file's permissions.

To help isolate this issue, could you please try quitting the Dropbox application by using the following steps:

  • Click the Dropbox icon in your system tray (Windows)
  • Click on the icon in the Notifications panel and select "Quit Dropbox"
If the issue persists when Dropbox is completely closed, this suggests that the cause is related to something outside of the Dropbox application. You may want to check other applications or components of your Operating System that could be causing this.

Please take a bit of your time to try my suggestions at your convenience & let me know of the outcome here. Thanks again for your cooperation & I’m looking forward to hearing back from you!
