Help - A file I was working on this afternoon has disappeared

New member | Level 2

I have had an issue with Microsoft Outlook 16 this afternoon and was on the phone for over an hour with them while they sorted out the problem - now I am back in my computer the version of the Excel file I was working on this morning has gone.  When I click on the file the only versions it has are the 19 June.  Can I do a windback to the 26 Jun morning somehow ??  The file is not in the deleted files.

Thanks

Thanks for circling back to me here @Sooty59; let’s take it from where we’ve left off!

So, assuming that you’ve been working on your spreadsheets residing within the Dropbox folder locally on your device, you should be able to see a checkmark when these are updated on your account online. Do you recall seeing that as you were working on your spreadsheet yesterday by any chance? If so, then you should also be able to see that updating on the spreadsheet’s Version History (tip: it’s on the 💬 of the file in question).

Now, your initial message made me think that you’ve already checked on the Version History & you couldn’t locate your last edits, which indicates that these haven’t synced on your account online. If so, then then these haven’t synced to our servers either & if this has happened, then it would be best for you to launch Microsoft Excel & look at your Recents there to see if you can recover your recent work.

I hope that this clarifies matters for you & please let me know of your findings!

Hey @Sooty59, you may be able to recover your missing version as long as it’s synced to our servers, however it’s my understanding that this wasn’t updated back to your Dropbox account; please let me know if I’ve missed anything along the way. If you’re saving your files to Dropbox from your desktop, I’m wondering if the version you’re looking for was saved back on the Recents of the app you used to modify your spreadsheet. Can you have a second look on whether this applies?

Please let me know how you get on with my advice or if I’ve misunderstood your initial description or circumstances in any way & I’ll do my best to check back with you asap. Thanks!

Hi Jane

This is very embarrasing.  For some reason it was backing up to One Drive - so now have it on Dropbox which I love

Thanks for your help though

Oh, well, in truth I was hoping that this outcome would have the opposite effect @Sooty59! 😊
