Help! My Files Are Missing!

Help! My Files Are Missing!

New member | Level 2

I have several Excel files that I have saved in Dropbox so I can access them on my phone and computer. I don't have them saved anywhere else, because I was under the impression that they would be safe on DropBox, but now they are all missing! I have searched my deleted files (there are none) and my history and there are only photos there. How can I get my files back? I only have the free version, but I've been using it for several years and have never had a problem. Is there a limit to how long you can use the free version? I just want my files back.

Hi @pjkoontz, thanks for messaging the Community!

There isn't a limit for how long you can keep you files on your account. Provided that the account is kept active (logged into at least twice within 12 months) then the account isn't deactivated by Dropbox.

If the files aren't in the deleted files page, then they could have been deleted outside of 30 days ago, been permanently deleted from the site, or were not synced for some reason. The latter could mean that the app wasn't running to sync the files, or they were synced to another Dropbox account.

Do you see any deletions on the events page?

Keep me posted!
