Help with sharing a file

Explorer | Level 4

Hello,

I need to link from a website (Wordpress.org) to a pdf that is currently within a shared folder on Dropbox. I'm happy for people to be able to download but I don't want them to have any editing rights. I also need to be absolutely certain that they will not be able to see anything in the Dropbox folder aside from the linked document. I can't find absolute assurance on this in the help documents.

If I simply create a link to the document will:

it be downloadable but not editable?

it mean that other documents within the folder might be visible?

Thank you

Dropboxer

Hi @SoSusie, thanks for posting your questions here.

If you create a shared link to a file and send it to someone, they will be able to see only that one file.

They will also be able to download it, unless you've disabled the option to do so.

By downloading it, they create a separate copy that they can edit, as long as they have the relevant third party app.

I hope this helps, but let me know if you have any other questions.

Great, thanks so much.

I'm happy for them to edit their own copy, once downloaded, just wanted to be sure they couldn't edit the copy I'm linking to - it's not a collaborative document.

All clear now. Thank you.
