Hide Folders from Desktop File Explorer

New member | Level 2
New member | Level 2

I have a need to hide all pre-2016 folders from Desktop/File Explorer/Dropbox. Many files/folders are still in the cloud & haven't been downloaded onto the desktop, but that's not the point - I want to keep the files safe & secure but not be able to see them from my desktop. Should the need arise to access them, I can always do so from dropbox.com or dropbox app.

If this solution is not available then I've thought of 2 alternatives. Create a 2nd Dropbox account (which I don't show on the desktop) or buy an external device & store all of these older files in a hard form, externally (which seems old school to me).

Any suggestions? Thanks

Hello @Pulawater - welcome to the Dropbox Family!

I'm sorry to ask this and forgive me if it sounds obvious; are you familiar with our selective sync feature?

This would enable you to free up space on your computer's hard drive while using our desktop app normally by un-syncing the folders you'd like to hide from the particular computer through the desktop app's preferences (found under the Sync tab).

Just make sure you give enough time to our desktop app to sync the changes you applied and once it reports 'Up to date' you should be good to go!

Hint: You can boost the syncing process up by changing your bandwidth settings according to your needs.

Let me know how it goes when you find the time to give this a go!
