Higlighting in Word documents buggy in Safari but not Chrome on a Mac

Higlighting in Word documents buggy in Safari but not Chrome on a Mac

Fully updated Safari (14.1.2) and trying to comment, by highlighting, in a Word.doc in Dropbox. Expected a very weak yellow highlight which can be made using the cursor for multiple words or double-clicking. The highlight appears on the text but very frequently, the black popup box that takes you to the comment area on the sidebar does not show up. Sometimes it is right at the bottom of the window, sometimes can't be seen at all. Makes it impossible to add the comment.

Using Chrome, the highlighting/commenting works as expected.

Any ideas of how to rectify this behavior? Is it a bug?

Hey @Ian M.30, thanks for reaching out to us!

Can you try clearing the cache on Safari or restoring it to its default settings and disabling any plugins, to see if that helps?

Let me know how it goes!

No Hanna, those changes had no effect.

If I highlight but either cursor drag or double click, occasionally the black comment bubble appears above the selection. Most times it is at the bottom of the window, below the action bar, often only visible after scrolling the document. Never is anything more than the top of the comment bubble shown and clicking on it does not take you to the commenting field on the right side of the screen.

Cheers,

Thanks for the update, Ian.

The problem is that if it works on other browsers, this probably has to do with Safari itself, not Dropbox.

Do you see the same if you try from a private browsing window in Safari?
