How can I keep my files local only since Smart Sync is enabled?

Hi all.

I'm a little confused by the Smart Sync setting 'Start as'.

I need all files in my DropBox folder to stay local, and never be online only, no matter how long it's been since they were accessed. I can't ever be in a situation where I need to be logged in to Dropbox to access a file.

How can I ensure that?

Just leave them as 'Local' then and you'll be fine

Dropbox never ever changes files unless YOU tell it to. It isnt like iCloud where it removes things after a set time.

If you set it to Local then thats what it is - forever.

Hi Mark.

Thanks for your reply, and reassurance!

The terminology of the preferences pane in the desktop app is much less reassuring. The reference to 'new files' and 'Start as' make it sound like that's all the setting applies to, and that older files could eventually become online-only. I need to know 100% that isn't the case, and that not a single file will ever become online-only.

Thanks for that.

Maybe the preferences should say 'keep files local' or similar.

Hi @CJReyes724; welcome to the Community!

If your desktop app isn't still syncing, this shouldn't be happening.

Can you check if the desktop app within your computer's system tray reports to be 'Up to date'?

If it's up to date and you're still seeing 0 sized folders, I'd appreciate a screenshot of how they look like on your end so I can advise further.

Thanks a bunch!
