How can I move videos from Dropbox that a friend sent to me?

Explorer | Level 3

A friend sent me videos I want to keep but instead of putting them on a CD he sent them via Dropbox. I want the video but not Dropbox at $12/month which I will never use?

How do I get the videos off and out somewhere else on my hard drive?

I’m not very computer literate so please keep in mind-Thank you

Hey there @Bforeman, I hope you're well today!

Could you just clarify how they sent these files to you? Did they share them via a link, or share a folder with the videos inside perhaps?

If they shared the folder with you, and you're being prompted to add the folder to your account, I'd suggest asking them to send you a shared link instead.

From a shared link, you should be able to directly download the videos without needing to add them to your Dropbox account first.

Let me know if this helps!

Re: Moving videos off dropbox

I’m sorry but I don’t know how they shared the videos with me, link or folder? I’m just wanting to get these videos but not have to pay dropbox because I don’t need this service.

I’m just afraid I will mess up or lose the videos if I make a mistake taking them off Dropbox or cancelling Dropbox.

Kind of feel trapped because I see no way to TALK to a human and I hate that. Im 70 and not up to snuff on this computer stuff

I would appreciate a call from Dropbox support. [personal information removed as per Community Guidelines]

Thank you

Hey @Bforeman, no worries, we will do our best to help you sort this out!

Whether it's a shared file or a shared link, you should be able to see a Download option or a button that looks like a downwards facing arrow, on the top right of your screen.

If the video is in a folder that the other user sent to you though, you'll need to add it to your account to access it.

However, as Daphne mentions, you could always ask the user to send it to you as a shared link, which won't affect your account.

You can find more information about shared links, here

Let us know if you have any other questions, cheers!
