How can I share files without it downloading to my desktop?

New member | Level 2

I have a free Dropbox account. I want to use it to send some files of my choice to dropbox so that I can share with others, but don't want all my files sent there everytime something is downloaded. I don't understand how to change it so that when I download, it goes to my desktop and not Dropbox. I know this is probably pretty basic, but I'm stuck and would appreciate any help.  Thanks.

Hi @dbeck, thanks for messaging the Community!

The way the Dropbox desktop application works is that when you add a file to the Dropbox site, it does download to the computer.

If you don't want files downloading, you can completely unlink the app from your account, however, it won't be able to upload or sync any changes either.

Hope this helps to clarify matters!
