How do I fix things after the disaster of enabling "backup"?

New member | Level 2

Wow, enabling backup of my folders (on macOS; just downloads in this case, as a test) does a whole hell of a lot more than just backup the files. Closes Finder (losing all my state) resorts my Finder sidebar (putting downloads first) and removes the special icon associated with the downloads folder.

How do I get things back to the way they work (and should have been left by this terrible "feature)?

Hi @Orome, thanks for messaging the Community!

I'm sorry to hear about this situation. You can disable the computer backup from Dropbox using these steps.

Afterwards, you can move the folders and files back to their previous locations, which will also delete them from the Dropbox account online.

If you need any further assistance, please let me know.
