How do I get smart synced folders that are stored online, to show up the dropbox folder on my laptop

Uninistalled and Reinstalled dropbox, told me my computer storage was low and would stop syncing, not sure what is was doing as no folders or files had been added locally to change storage.  Regardless, I decided to try smart sync.  After taking 2 days to go through, it kind of works.  

All files show up and are still online, but on my desktop in drop box folder, only 2 folders are displayed and all the loss .pdfs that I never sorted in their own folders.  How do I get smart synced folders that are stored online, to show up the desktop in case I want to download something without going into dropbox.com?

Dropbox v.  99.4.501 and Windows 10 all updated.

If you can't see some folders in your Dropbox folder locally, could they be selectively synced by any chance?

I am facing the same issue. I have lost all pdf's and images from my folders. How do I retrieve them? Kindly help
