How do I have a timestamp added to the filename when saving?

We need to be able to add a timestamp when a file is Saved or Modified. Is there a setting in Dropbox that enables this for all files?

Thanks for getting back to me, @BobMan

Although this isn't an option with the Dropbox app or the website, you may be able to find a third party app that helps you achieve this by looking through the web.

You can also suggest this in our Share an idea section, where other users who have this interest in common can comment and upvote.

Hope this helps to some extent!

Hey @BobMan, I'd be more than happy to help!

I'll just need a bit more info to make sure I have a better understanding of what you're seeing. For example:

  • Are you referring to the website, the desktop app, the Dropbox folder in your Finder/File Explorer, or the mobile app?
  • screenshot (without any personal info) of what you're seeing would also be very helpful.

Keep me posted!

We primarily use Dropbox in File Explorer and Finder, depending upon the OS.

I would like to be able to save to a Dropbox folder using a filename and have Dropbox insert a timestamp to the filename (testfile.xls) when saved...eg.. testfile_01_01_2020.xls
