How is a shared link better than a passworded file?

How is sending a dropbox link via email to someone different from sending a password to a file to that same person?

if the email containing the link is hacked, then the file could be accessed by the hacker.

If someone finds out the URL for a shared link itself, assuming there's no link permissions on it, then it can be accessed from the browser by any user.

Depending on your Dropbox plan, you can add a password to the shared link, so the link won't preview without the password itself.
