Re: Smart Sync still taking up local space

How do you do a complete sync if your hard drive isn't big enough to sync everything in DB?!

you dont sync everything in dropbox, you progressively sync folders and set them to “online only” immediately afterwards, then selectively sync another folder etc
I noticed the fully synced and offloaded folders actually take up no space

Re: Online files still taking space in my Mac!!

Dropboxer

Thank you for your patience and feedback while we have been working on this.

We have a software update that will be available in our next version of the Dropbox desktop app.

The update will set placeholder files' logical size to zero bytes, this means that when viewing/managing storage on your macOS, the size taken up by these files should be accurately reflected.

This update will initially only be available to users who have opted in to the Early Access program.

To opt in, please contact our support team directly here stating that you wish to be opted in and reference “Zero Size Placeholders”.

If you already have a support ticket open with us, update it stating that you wish to be opted in.

We will contact you as soon as your request is processed with next steps.

Once this is completed, all placeholder files will be re-written with a logical file size of zero bytes which should resolve this issue for you.

While this is in early access, we will be assessing whether to roll out this update to all users.

Note that this update will only apply to macOS and will only address the issue as described in this post. There are possibly other issues in this thread which are unrelated and should be investigated separately.

Let us know if you have any questions on this.

He’s correct. Just switch to Box or use iCloud Drive if you want a decent solution that works.

OH MY GOD, 2 YEARS LATER AND SOMEONE AT DROPBOX FINALLY ADMITS THERE IS AN ISSUE, ALONG WITH A SOLUTION.

I am still considering switching to Box. If the last 2 years has taught me anything, it’s Dropbox puts its long term customers LAST and thinks people are ignorant and stupid. It would be nice to see an apology and a refund for the past months this service did not work.

Signed,

a 10 year customer.

I have same problem. I’ve made everything that was in my Dropbox folder online only. But when I check “documents” when I “manage” my hard drive it still shows them there. I thought the whole point was to clear up the space on hard drive and just access the folders and files online via Dropbox?
Can I delete the files from my Mac now?? Or will that then delete them from Dropbox too??

Thanks. Daniel

I clicked the link but only got to a menu of choices. Selected Sync and more choices. How can I make sure to get to the right team and send an email to opt in to this program?
