How to stop smart syncing from downloading files I am NOT working on!
Months ago this question was asked and a DB service rep promised to look for the answer.
This is a big ole problem for those of us who use smart sync. I am on a MacBook pro and once again I am asking myself if it is worth it to continue to use dropbox though I have been here for many years.
I use this professionally and if DB has sooooo little concern for users that a bug which totally destroys the ability to utilize the product goes nowhere, what is the point?
Have you looked to see what is causing the files to be marked to download?
For example if they are in a child folder and the parent one is edited or updated and that then updates things like date modified etc. that would cause a download. Adobe photoshop etc. is renowned for this!

Hi @Ann-Marie, if you see files downloaded from Dropbox to your computer that were previously online-only, and you didn’t open or change the files, another application on your computer might be causing the issue.
Some applications need to look at your files to work, and that makes Dropbox download the files, such as the following:
Applications that back up your files
Third-party applications that store files in your Dropbox folder
Applications that automatically create a list of your recently used files (these can send a request to the file in Dropbox, similar to the request that gets sent when you open a file)
Opening a 'Save as' window in the application itself can also trigger the Dropbox app to download the online-only files.
