How to sync desktop with two macbooks

New member | Level 2
New member | Level 2

Hi

I'm currently syncing two macbook desktops through icloud.

Is there a way to do this with Dropbox?

I basically want to be able to work on one macbook and if I add, delete, change files on that desktop, when I use the other it has synced and is identical.

Thanks

Mark

Thank you for posting your first question in our Community @mjb0871

All you need to do is have the Dropbox desktop application installed on both your devices and sign in with the same account credentials to both.

You can find the latest stable and beta builds for the desktop application here. I suggest to start with stable. Betas are early releases and still under testing.

Let me know how this goes and of course all your questions.

Thank you Mark!

Hi Fiona

Thanks for the reply.

I'm already sharing files between the two with Dropbox but I want the desktop items to sync.

Thought it might be more difficult with the desktop being a system folder.

How are you sharing files between your two computers without the desktop app?

The Dropbox desktop application creates a folder to synchronize your files from the Dropbox cloud to your computer.

I am using the desktop app

My question is about files & folders on my desktop, that I want duplicated and synced on a second macbooks desktop. Not a files folder, the actual desktop,

The second desktop needs to have the Dropbox app too. The app will create a Dropbox folder there and you will have your files on the second computer.

Hi Fiona

I know all this. This is what I am doing for the rest of my files & folders.

My question is how do I sync files & folders on the two desktops (not the app the actual desktop...the system folder on the macbook).

Apologies or the misunderstanding. I get it now.

Any of your desktop folders you can copy or drop and put in the Dropbox folder, will sync.  We don't recommend to sync apps and system folders in Dropbox, as they will not operate and will cause syncing issues. So, your whole desktop (apps and system folders like documents) cannot sync.

Let me know if you have further questions.
