Hi I recently installed the drop box app on to my macbook. Each time I try to move or save a copy of a file down somewhere it is saying it can't unless it is unlocked. It then instructs me on how to unlock the file: "Get Info > Unlock". However, every time I try to unlock the file, the file get immediately locked again, without me touching anything. When I look at the permission i have "Read & Write" access.
Is there a way I can keep this files unlocked so I can edit them? Or a way to edit the files so I don't have to unlock them each time I need to edit them?
Thanks!!
Hey there @dannyharr, welcome to the Dropbox Community!
It sounds like the files that you're trying to edit are ones that you only have viewing access to. Are the files shared with other Dropbox users?
You can check this by Command+clicking one of the files and choosing the Dropbox "Share" option, the sharing window should show you the current sharing permissions if it's indeed shared.
Let me know what you find and we'll go from there - thanks!

Hi Daphne,
It says I "do not have permission to manage membership of this file". How do I gain permission?
Thanks!
Hey @dannyharr,
You'll need to contact the owner of the shared content and request that they allow you the access that you need. From the sharing menu, you should be able to see who the owner is.
I hope this helps!

Hi @dannyharr,
If your Dropbox folder is on default location, you can use following:
sudo chflags -R noschg "/Users/$USER/Dropbox" sudo chflags -R nouchg "/Users/$USER/Dropbox" sudo chown -R "$USER" "/Users/$USER/Dropbox"
Will be asked for your password (sudo). Try at least...
Hope this helps.
