How to turn off syncing between desktop and dropbox

Hi all, 

I have been trying to turn off the sync option so that my Documents and Desktop files do not sync to dropbox. Sometimes I temporarily store RAW images here and do not want that syncing on my data or to use up storage space. I have set the permission off in my Mac's privacy preferences and I have tried using the Dropbox desktop app to turn off syncing. Every time I do this it comes up with an error message to say backup cannot be stopped. 

I have tried restarting, quitting the app, everything but the error message stills appears

Since it sounds like you're trying to turn off computer backup, could you confirm for me that you're following these steps?

Can you let me know what the current sync status of the app is showing when you click the Dropbox icon in your menu bar?

Also, what version of the app do you have installed? You can hover over the Dropbox icon to see this.

The sync status is up to date and the version I have is this one: Version 117.4.378 (117.4.378)

Have you recently rebooted you computer at all @StephanieEmmy, to see if that helps with disabling the backup?
