Dropbox files & folders

I have a basic account since 2010 and had to reinstall the app on my mac.
Now, I have all the folders, but they have no files! They are empty and I don't know what happened. How can I recover them without the absurd option of recovery that is available in the paid account (for what I checked in the internet). That seems to me to be plainly a steal...
Please help me!
I have all my work in there!
Thank you
Francisco Gomes

Hi @Francisco Gomes just to clarify upgrading wont make any difference to you - upgrades only work on files deleted from time of payment.
If you got a new device my guess is you've not been patient enough yet to let things download - Dropbox does folder structures first.
Have you looked at www.dropbox.com/home to see what files you have on your account? Another one to look at is www.dropbox.com/events to see what has happened to your files/folders

Thank you, mate! You have just saved my life!
I went to dropbox.com/events and I saw there that somehow all my files have been deleted. There was an option to restore all the files and so I did it!
I will be able to sleep tonight thanks to you.
Thank you very very much!
All the best to you!
Francisco Gomes
