I have some free space on my hard disk, though I'm getting an error message that I can't sync. Why?

Dropbox on my computer says it can't sync as there's not enough disc space. My remaining hard drive space is over 700mb, and this error came up when I added 3 photos of less than 10mB to my storage. I'm only using 1% of my Dropbox storage and have selective sync set, so only the most importatn files are on my computer.

So the reason given appears invalid.

Why can't I sync?

You need more free space available on your drive. I don't know how the minimum is caclulated but there's always some overhead in syncing that requires more space for the sync process than the actual size of the files.

Thanks Rich. That's not consistent then either, because I've had a lot less available storage and synced a lot more information before.

Hey @Tsots1, thanks for the quick message back!

Could you clear the Dropbox cache folder as a follow-up step to see if that makes a difference?

Keep us posted on the outcome please!

Hi Jane,

Thanks for the tip. I checked it and emptied my Dropbox cache per the instructions. It amounted to only 1.5mB, but I deleted it and emptied my recycle bin and still can't sync.

I tried uploading a photo from my phone (Android), I've tried copying a file across on my deskptop into my Dropbox folder and i've uploaded a file through the Dropbox web interface. Still no luck....?

Thanks for trying my suggestion @Tsots1

You may have to remove another directory by adjusting your Selective Sync settings or delete local files to sync the newly added content if you’re still hitting the error message.

Additionally, it may be a good idea to unlink & relink your account on the pc once as a quick fix, if you feel that this doesn’t reflect the space you’ve freed up.

Please let us know how you get on with these steps. Thanks again!
