I'm deleting the desktop app's cache folder and it keeps coming back. Why?

Hi,

I tried to delete the dropbox.cash  several times, but it comes back just few minutes after that!

It is a huge file (26 Go), which prevents my dropbox to synchronize.

I even waited more than 3 days, but nothing happened

How can I delete it ?

Thanks

Hi @AdelAb; welcome to our Community!

The issue you are experiencing may be related to an issue with the Dropbox cache folder or with some of the contents within it.

As you know, our desktop app keeps a cache of files hidden in your Dropbox for efficiency and for emergency purposes. You can use the steps below to clear the cache. This will not affect or remove the files in your Dropbox folder and will also free up space in your hard drive.

  1. Stop Dropbox:

    • Click on the Dropbox icon.
    • Select "Quit Dropbox" (Linux) or click on your profile picture or initials to the right of the search bar, and select "Quit Dropbox" (Mac) or "Exit Dropbox" (Windows).

  2. Carefully follow the instructions from the relevant Help Center article
  3. Restart Dropbox:
  • Mac and Linux: Run from Applications folder.
  • Windows: Run from Start > All Programs menu.

If the issue persists, please remove the Dropbox cache folder completely. This involves following the same steps to clear the cache folder, but this time try by fully deleting the main .dropbox.cache folder instead of deleting just its contents.

Let me know how it goes!
