I'm having trouble seeing updates to files in a shared folder?

New member | Level 2
New member | Level 2

I'm new to Dropbox, and I've been having some problems when using a shared folder.

I was informed by email that a shared folder had been created for me. I followed the link, uploaded two files, and clicked the button at the bottom of "Share" that looks like an infinity sign (the one that says "anyone with a link can view this file"). I clicked this button for both files and the shared folder. There are three groups of people lissted under "Share" with whom I can share these files, but I've heard that the people with a link haven't been able to view them. They seem to think that I haven't uploaded anything. Have I done something wrong, or is the problem on their end? I should note that, since I'm not the owner or creator of the file I don't have permission to manage membership of the folder.

Thank you to anyone who can help.

Hi @linalco

If its a SHARED LINK then the person who set it up has done it wrong I'm afraid - shared links are one way read only. So that means that they can send the file out on the link but nobody else can return the changes.

You need to put the files in to the SHARED FOLDER for that to happen on all devices/accounts and make sure thats where everybody is looking.

I did place the two files in the folder that was sent to me. I then chose to share both documents and the folder they are in.

FWIW, this isn't a collaborative situation. The two files that I uploaded were recent paystubs. The individuals who set up the folder were supposed to view and approve the paystubs, then send me an agreement for me to print out and sign.  I just keep hearing that they can't see the paystubs, which is confusing me.

It still sounds like its set up wrong. If you have had to tap 'share' it isnt shared correctly in the first place - as it is saying in your first post with the link.

Okay, maybe the folder wasn't set up correctly. I'll have to call them again and see what we can do about it. Thank you very much.

Good luck!

My suggestion.... EITHER a shared folder via www.dropbox.com/share where everybody is added in and you all accept it at that link, or, you use a shared link to transfer the files to other people and a Requests link to reupload it back to the others.
