I'm missing files and I found a file I don't own in one of my folders

Hi everyone!

I discovered some days ago that 2 important folders (with plenty of subfolders and files) had misteriously disappeared from my Dropbox (both my computer and the web page). I found them in the erased files, where it was said that they were erased two days ago at 4 am! Time that I obviouly was far asleep. I restored one of the folders, and when I was going to restore the second one, I found that there was a file called "deep_web_ciberdelincuencia_ilegal_re…ize.co" that was supposedly erased at the same time as my files. So now, if I want to restore my folder, I have to accept that I will restore that file too, and I am not sure if it is dangerous or not. It makes me think someone had access to my account and erased these folders, because I have never shared them and I now that noone had acces to the other devices which has my dropbox account installed at 4 am.

Thanks so much for your help.

Hi there @saksyao, I'd be happy to help with this.

Since you found an unidentified file, such as the one you mention, it sounds like your files were affected by ransomware.

In this case, you should be able to restore the folder and delete the item in question.

Before doing so, I'd recommend stopping any desktop app from running on your computers, so that the changes don't sync before removing the file.

Once you've done this, run an antivirus or security software to check for any possible malware.

Give it a go and let me know of any updates, thanks!
