I only have the local option for Smart Sync, how can I make them online-only?

Explorer | Level 3

Hi,

When I right click on the file in dropbox and hover over smart sync, I only see the local option, not the online-only option. I want to set it to online-only to save space on my hard drive. Currently it is set to local.

Thanks,

A

Hi there @antara, I hope you're having a good week so far!

It sounds like the Smart Sync feature hasn't been fully enabled on your account for some reason. Can you check the following location?

  1. Click the Dropbox icon in your menu bar/system tray.
  2. Click the profile pic/initials icon in the top right.
  3. Go to the General tab.
  4. Check for an option to enable Smart Sync.

If you don't see an option there, please let me know which version of the desktop app you have installed.

Let me know how it goes!

Hi Daphne, thank you very much for your reply. I cannot see the General tab that you mentioned. I did enable online-only for smart sync as a pop-up asked me to, but I still only see the option for local when I right-click on a file.

I am using version v104.4.175

Thanks!

Thanks for getting back to me here @antara!

Just so I have a better idea of your current setup, can you let me know what your device's OS is?

Also, since you enabled Smart Sync with the pop up, have you rebooted your computer at any point?

Keep me posted!

Hi Daphne, thanks for your help. I am currently using macOS Mojave version 10.14 (18A391). I have not rebooted my laptop since enabling smart sync.

Thanks,

Can you try rebooting your computer to see if that does the trick @antara?

Also, did you enable Smart Sync with similar steps as what's outlined here?

Hi Daphne, I rebooted my computer and now everything seems to be fine- I have shifted all my files to online-only! Thank you very much for your help.

I'm glad to hear that @antara!

I'm just a post away if there's anything else that I can help with. :beaming face with smiling eyes:
