I restored some files but I can't see them

Explorer | Level 4

So I had a few archives saved in dropbox that were protected and my brother decided to delete them because he couldn't access them. I recovered them a while back with rewind but I only noticed that they aren't here anymore. They're not anywhere in the events tab nor in deleted files tab. It is my only dropbox account. Is there a way support could help me recover them, or are they unrecovareable? They might've been gone for a few months now..

Hi @jador; thanks for keeping us in the loop and happy October!

Is it possible that those files were deleted (again) outside your account's version history?

If that's the case, I'm afraid we won't be able to help in restoring those files.

On a side note, this is one of the main reasons why we recommend not sharing an individual account with others.

I know it's not much, but I hope this helps to some extent.

Hey @jador, let's see what we can find on this.

I'll just need a few more details, such as:

  • Were these files in a shared folder that you were the owner of?
  • Since you restored them, have you tried searching for them on the website?

Any additional info would be very helpful. Cheers!

Thanks for your swift reply, @jador

Could it be that you're signed in to another Dropbox account?

You can check this by going to the General tab in your online settings.

Let me know what you find, cheers!

Hmm. Could you double-check the events page and let me know if there's any recent activity regarding these files?

Also, could you confirm the steps that you followed to restore these files?

These are all my visible events, and the files in question are nowhere to be seen: https://i.imgur.com/mH9ZSdv.jpg

To restore the files I used rewind to the point before all my files were deleted, but I did this months ago (february-march). I've read the FAQ and have seen that deleted files get permanently deleted after 120 days, and I think that's what happened, because they couldn't just disappear. Maybe my brother deleted them again, but I didn't notice in time. My problem now is, could they be recovered anymore?

Just to make sure that we cover as much ground as possible, could you also double-check your Share tab, in case you find any folders there?
