Is membership required to view shared files?

Explorer | Level 3

Sharees report they must join/register for an account - before permission to see shared files.

Is this true?

Thanks, Tom

Hi @Tom M.44, thanks for posting today!

It depends on how you're sharing files, and whether or not you've set any permissions. For shared files and folders, then you do need a Dropbox account to view them as they are connected to that account.

For shared links, you don't need a Dropbox account, however, if you're on a paid plan, you can prevent users from accessing it without a password.

Hope this helps to clarify matters!
