Latest Version of File Not Showing

I saved a very important word document last night that is stored in my dropbox. Ive never had issues with it. Today, the latest version is not there and dropbox seems to think i wasnt even in that file at all yesterday. It recognises and saved other files I had open.  It is not saved locally and Word shows that it was opened yesterday but reverts to the older version saved in my dropbox..... All of the version history is from 2 days ago, which should not be the case!! Please help!

Hey there @kferguson06 - sorry to hear that!

Could you please let me know if our desktop app on your computer is (and was after you edited the file in question) "up to date"?

Dropbox backs up the latest version of your files and saves all prior versions for up to 30 days (or longer if you have a Dropbox Business account). If you have the Extended Version History option, your version history will be preserved for one year from the date of the purchase of this add-on.

If you accidentally overwrite a file, you should be able to restore it in a few clicks using the Dropbox website:

1) Sign in to the Dropbox website: https://www.dropbox.com
2) Find the file you'd like to restore
3) Select the file and choose "Version History"
4) Select the version you'd like and press "Restore"

Please note that the previous version history is stored for each file, but it isn't stored for folders while for more information about it you can always visit this Help Center article:

https://www.dropbox.com/help/security/recover-older-versions

Keep me posted on your findings please!

No the version history shows older versions.. it does not seem to think i overwrote the document, but instead never even opened it or saved it, both of which I know happened. Yes, the app says up to date.

Thanks for the additional info @kferguson06 - much appreciated.

Was it showing "Up to date" yesterday while you were working on that file too? Could you maybe try another browser to exclude browser specific issues?

Let me know what you find please.

yes it was up to date as other files were updated and synced fine. It showed up to date but clearly didnt sync the changes I was making for this particular file, for some reason. The browser is irrelevant as its running on my desktop ?

I see @kferguson06 - thanks for clarifying this.

One last thing to check here is if there are files in your Dropbox that may have problematic file names, try our lookup tool: https://www.dropbox.com/bad_files_check

Finally, you can also view a full list of the characters (letters, symbols, or numbers) that may be incompatible with the operating system on your computer (that could have caused an issue like this) in this Help Center article:

https://www.dropbox.com/help/syncing-uploads/files-not-syncing

In any case, should you need further assistance looking into this matter, I'd suggest that you logged a ticket with our team letting them know as much information as possible about this in the hopes that there's something further that can be done on this specific case.

Should you find any troubles doing that, please let me know and I'll reach out to the email address you use for your forum's profile so we can work on this together with all of my tools available.

Thanks again for your cooperation!
